Love and hate
When you are born, the first thing that people comment about a baby is their features.
"She has really big eyes!"
"His hair is so dark!"
Just to name a few. We grow up to be toddlers and we don't care about the rules. We have our parents dress us so the only thing we have to worry about is whether there is the perfect shade of lime green in the crayon box. We go to elementary school, where we can dress ourselves! Rainbow knee high socks here I come! But then, a huge brick drops on us and we enter middle school. Our emotions and our bodies start to change and we start to compare ourselves to others.
"I wish I was as smart as that girl."
"I wish I was taller and. ..maybe little bit more tan."
Things begin to change and now you have insecurities. A lot of them you over grow, dominate and battle. But, some, will haunt you all threw out your life. A lot of insecurities we often have is physical, often height and maybe even skin tone is one of those things.
Something I have noticed about people is how they can go on and on about things they dislike about themselves. They seem to start and never stop. But, what about the positive things about yourself? Why are they so overlooked?
There is a tag going around social media where people talk about 3 things they're insecure about, and 3 things you like about yourself. Upon watching a couple (a.k.a watching too many in the middle of the night) I noticed that people tend to shut down, and almost get shy whenever they start talking about things they like about themselves. Are we all somehow ashamed to admit that we like things about ourselves?

I decided to host my own little experiment with Northview students, asking the question, "What do you love about yourself?"
I did, however, ask a couple students what they were insecure about.
These are just a little droplet of what kids around Northview like, or don't , like about themselves.

There you have it! Some answers were very different from others. One of the main questions I got asked was whether or not the thing they loved about themselves had to be physical or personal. I thought this whole experience was really nice and sweet because it's not very often we sit down and we just talk about things we admire about ourselves or even things we enjoy doing.
