Dream
Hellie Chen
I did not know love until I met
You.
I was just a planet,
And you the sun.
God gave me the legs I stand on,
If only to protect you.
And my arms,
If only to embrace you.
I could not hear,
Until I met you.
And among the cacophony,
Of harsh metal,
Laughs of tinkling bells,
Of a thousand joys and sorrows,
You were there.
God gave me the eyes
I lay upon your visage,
If only to see you.
And sunlight soaked strands of gold,
Glittering sapphires of the sea.
I could not smell,
Until I met you.
And through,
the light struck ground,
Warm amber sap,
The scent of,
Not spring,
But fall,
Dry leaves,
Fiery ginger,
Red, orange, gold,
You.
Memories of you,
Slip through my fingers,
Like shifting smoke and memoryless dreams.
and perhaps you were just,
A dream.
I did not know love,
Until I met you.
I was just an animal,
And you were not mine.
You.
I was just a planet,
And you the sun.
God gave me the legs I stand on,
If only to protect you.
And my arms,
If only to embrace you.
I could not hear,
Until I met you.
And among the cacophony,
