Life: A Pencil Sketch

a broken pencil,
once again sharpened and dragged,
leaves dark streaks along the
once white paper; creating
landscapes from graphite:
oceans of unbroken mountaintops,
deserts molded by wind,
and skies crafted by the
hands of god.
a broken pencil
once again sharpened and dragged,
plots the imagination into a 11x7.5 inch grid;
meshing reality with the inner mind
creating new worlds and planets
far beyond our reach
but close to our greatest dreams.
a broken pencil
once again sharpened and dragged,
adds the finest details to our infinte galaxy;
thoughts forming innovation like stars to constellations—
together we exist, eternally sketching and drawing
our future. Who we want to be.
a broken pencil,
once again sharpened and dragged,
lies alone on the worn desk, stained by
scattered paint drops and spilt ink.
it's broken tip a reminder of our
unfinished journey.
a broken pencil,
needing to be sharpened and dragged,
lies ready to chart another road less traveled as
the sturdiest companion, through
journaling our memories and helping to
pave over the mountaintops
of life we all must face head on,
fearlessly.
